About Bilali

15 Jan 2010

On 26 October, 2004 Bilali left the Rugendo Family and joined the Munyaga Family - she was the only female in the group. Bilali subsequently had two babies but they both died in infancy.

So when the Rangers returned to the park after the war and rediscovered the Munyaga Family they were surprised and delighted to see that Bilali had with her a baby that appeared to be about nine months old.

The Rangers were hopeful that that it would be third time lucky for Bilali. With a baby and three silverbacks in her group, she would have her hands full for some time. The rangers named the baby Kakule after Safari Kakule, a Ranger who was killed in the line of duty in January 2009.

Gachuma was born on  7 January 2006 and was killed a month later as the many males in the group tried to claim her.
